President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the Takrowase Community Day Senior High School (SHS) in the Akwatia constituency of the Eastern Region.
The event was held on Tuesday, October 25, during Mr Mahama’s five-day campaign tour of the region. Mr Mahama, who is seeking another presidential term, pledged to allocate more resources into the development of education.
He said the infrastructural development of the sector under his watch, by way of the construction and refurbishment of classroom structures, teachers’ accommodation, and supply of furniture, bear testimony to government’s pledge to change lives and transform the country.
Mr Mahama, indicated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was determined to ensure that every Ghanaian child, especially female, had access to quality education.
He explained that government had invested so much in education with one third of the total budget allocated to the education sector.
Mr Mahama emphasised that education was key in the development of a country’s human resource.
For him “That is the reason why government has embarked on the school project and the SHS in the town is expected to admit 1,300 pupils.”
He explained that children from the district who qualify to be enrolled at the SHS are in excess of only about 2,640, so the newly established SHS is important to also provide educational opportunities for those who have qualified.
President Mahama also assured the people of Takrowase of government’s commitment to construct a bridge for them before the December 7 presidential and parliamentary polls.
