Authorities of the Tabiri Gyansa Junior High School at Mpasaaso Number One in the Ashanti Region have accused some pupils of the school who were repeated for failing their exams of setting the school building on fire.
The three-unit classroom block located in the Ahafo Ano South District got burnt on Wednesday, September 27, leaving about 130 pupils and teachers without a shelter.
The inferno started around 10:20 pm from the head teachers’ office, spreading to the other classrooms.
Text books and books belonging to teachers and pupils which were kept in the school’s store have all been lost to the fire.
Personnel of the Ghana Fire Service were called in to douse the fire, but they failed to show up.
Although the cause of the fire is not known, school authorities suspect a group of pupils who had repeated their class for non-performance, of being behind the fire.
