President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has called on the Spanish government to take direct interest and invest in his government’s initiatives aim at transforming the Ghanaian Economy from one that depends on Aid to one that depends on partnerships and investments.
The President says the many initiatives of his government, particularly, “the one district, one factory “, and the “one village, one Dam” policies are specific areas that should engage the Spanish government’s attention.
The Occasion
The President made the call when the outgoing Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Maria Jesus Alonso called on him at the Flag Staff House to bid farewell after her three and a half years duty tour of Ghana.
The President urged the outgoing Ambassador to convey his request to the Spanish government as she returns after her duty tour of Ghana.
Outgoing Ambassador
On her part, the outgoing Spanish Ambassador to Ghana expressed her sadness at how soon her time in Ghana has come to an end. She underscored that as at 2009, there were 14 Spanish companies doing business in Ghana, however, to date, there are 46 Spanish companies in Ghana. She added that she will convey the request of the President to her government as well as to private sector leaders in Spain to ensure that the volume of Spanish investments in Ghana increases during the time of her successor.
Love for Real Madrid Football Team
President Akufo Addo on a lighter side said that he has always loved the Real Madrid football club and he has always desired to watch the team play. He added that one of these days when he has a spare time, he will come to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium to see Real Madrid play in order to fulfill his childhood dream.
