Organisers of the ‘Aagbe wo’ demonstration say they have picked intelligence that some elements within the government are planning to deploy “the same state-sponsored thugs who brutalised innocent citizens at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election” to their demonstration today, Thursday, 7 February 2019.
In a statement, the Inter-Party Coalition for National Sovereignty said they will only recognise the police as security officers for the demonstration.
The demonstration is aimed at registering their anger at what they say is the growing insecurity in the country.
The group warned that their members will effect a citizens’ arrest of anyone who attempts to foment trouble in the course of their march.
Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama has encouraged supporters of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to fully participate in the ‘Aagbe wo’ demonstration.
“I welcome the initiative of the Inter-Party Coalition for National Sovereignty and I encourage all members of the NDC to participate in tomorrow’s demonstration. Let’s show to the world that we stand for peace and that the violence displayed in AWW has no place in our democracy,” Mr Mahama tweeted.
