The Member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region and Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Okudzeto Ablakwa is calling on president to declare a state of emergency and declare war in the fight of Galamsey.
Speaking in an interview on Accra based Okay fm monitored by Voicefmonline.com, the Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament says the best way the government can stop Galamsey in the country is to declare war and also deploy the military on every Galamsey sites whether legal or illegal to fight those people.
Hon Ablakwa further explained that the best approach in this should be a radical solution.
“What I’m calling for is a radical solution, the president should declare state of emergency, lets declare war”
“The soldiers should be deployed, they should go and remove everybody engage in this galamsey matter whether legal or illegal because is a blare filled”
According to him, a Chinese company which is a legal mining company in the Upper East have killed about twenty-six Ghanaians and the mining have not been closed down.
“As I speak to you, we claim that a Chinese company which is legal miners in the Upper East have killed twenty-six Ghanians and the mining has not been stopped”
He says the environments need some breathing space and the river bodies need at least a year to reclaim and be restored.
Hon Ablakwa claims that, the country even benefits from bush meats than mining.
He added that the mining has affected farmers to the extent that when going to their cocoa farms, they have to fetch their own water from home to water their cocoa
