State Attorneys in the country are billed for a crucial meeting today, Wednesday, 19 October, to decide on their planned industrial action.
The meeting follows the expiration of a 7-day ultimatum they gave the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice and Attorney General’s Department; and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to implement orders of the National Labour Commission with regards to their conditions of service or they go on strike.
The state attorneys are demanding a litany of things including vehicles as part of their conditions of service.
The leaders of the Association of State Attorneys have said they are at a loss as to why the NLC’s directive has not been complied with a year on.
They are demanding payment of their harmonised salaries, a sustainable pension scheme, research allowance, housing facilities, free healthcare, payment of their clothing and fuel allowance; payment of outstanding salary arrears, provision of logistic support, machinery, equipment and tools among others.
