The public affairs unit of the Ghana Police Service has published the names of some streets in Accra, that will be closed to traffic on Saturday September 5, ahead of the maiden edition of the Millenium Marathon.
In a statement, the Accra Regional Public Relations Officer, DSP Effia Tenge said, the closure of the roads is to “ensure the smooth management of both human and vehicular traffic before, during and after the event.”
Roads to be closed
Between 5:00 am and 12:00 midday on the day, the roads to be closed are:
- Atta Mills High Street: from Cadbury House near Enterprise Insurance to Trade Fair Junction.
- Gilffard Road: from Trade Fair Junction to 37 roundabout
- Liberation Road: from 37 roundabout to Ako-Adjei through to Independence Avenue to National Theatre Traffic Light
- Liberia Road: from National Theatre to TUC to Ako – Adjei through North Liberia Road to Farisco
- Kwame Nkrumah Avenue: from Farisco through to Wato roundabout
- Cantoments Road: from Osu Traffic Light to Frankies Restaurant
- 4th Lane, Osu: from Frankies to Salem Street through to Salem Link
- Angola Road: from SSNIT Hospital to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light
- Starlet “91 Road: from Osu Cemetery to Black Star Square.
The police have also set up some designated car parks specifically for the event. They are:
- The Forecourt of the State House
- International Bank Car Park
- The Accra Sports Stadium Car Park
- The Ministries Car Park
- West end of the Independence Square.
The Millenium Marathon is an annual international marathon that will be held in Accra. The marathon will start from the Independence Square, go through some principal streets of the capital and end at the Independence Square.
