Skill Link Limited, the company undertaking the Wa Airport project, has reduced confidence in local contractors vying for government contracts, Cecilia Dapaah, Minister of Aviation, has said.
According to her, the company shoddily carried out a contract the previous government awarded to it to refurbish the Wa Airport.
Mrs Dapaah has, therefore, ordered the suspension of payments to the company until the defects identified with the finished work are corrected.
Commenting further on the matter in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Monday May 22, she said: “We want value for money for work done. We will not allow any contractor to short-change the taxpayer. Quality work is our goal.
She added: “This government will not sit down for matters to go this way, we need to get value for money because it is the taxpayer’s money we are using.
“Some Ghanaian contractors are doing very well with their work whereas others are doing shoddy work and in the end damaging future opportunities for their colleagues.”
