Students who contest for various leadership positions in the country should desist from violence and verbal attacks on each other, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA), Professor Joshua Alabi, has advised
According to him, such attacks only jeopardise the careers of students.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony for executives of the Ghana Union of Professional Studies (GUPS), Prof Alabi noted that the greatest asset for students was their social capital – friendship among themselves – which would help them to achieve their aims.
He further encouraged students to accept national service postings irrespective of the area they would be posted to, saying it would help reduce unemployment in the country.
The newly-elected president of GUPS, Wisdom Gmayan, also noted that he and his new executives would work to promote the interests of the student body and make proposals to government in order to bring programmes and courses that are appealing to industries.
He also advised all students to desist from electoral violence, indicating that they (students) can have higher qualifications but if there is no peace in the country, they cannot work with those certificates.
