The bodyguard of the Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, had to fire several warning shots to maintain calm after a heavy-duty equipment dealer and his workers confronted him at Spintex in Accra.
The Minister, together with his Deputy, Anthony Karbo, as well as some officials of the ministry had visited the construction site of the tunnel linking East Legon to the Spintex on Monday, August 29 for an inspection when the chaos broke.
The Chief Engineer of Sonitra, Mr Feda Natour, complained to the minister that the presence of heavy-duty equipment on the Spintex side of the project was hampering construction works, therefore, the heavy-duty equipment dealer should be made to remove his equipment from the location.
Mr Natour complained to the minister that prior efforts to get the dealer to relocate had failed.
The minister met with the dealer and asked him to immediately remove his equipment since he had been notified on several occasions but had failed to comply.
The dealer who was adamant, rather demanded for more time, insisting that he was a party member and should be treated humanely as he insisted he is not a squatter.
The incident attracted the East Legon Police to the scene and the dealer and his two employees were arrested and bundled into a police vehicle.
