Deputy Minister nominee for Finance, Charles Adu-Boahen, has said he chose to leave the private sector to work in the public sector to serve the country.
Mr Adu-Boahen, who is the Chief Executive Officer of investment firm Black Star Advisors, and Managing Director of Primrose Properties, responding to why he would leave his two companies to become Deputy Minister of Finance when he appeared before the vetting committee of parliament on Tuesday 28 March, said he hoped his decision would encourage others from the private sector to do same.
“I thought carefully about it when His Excellency called me and offered me the position. I felt that it was time for me to do my national service and to step up and help contribute to this country. I’m hoping that by doing so it might encourage a lot more people in the private sector to also come on board so that we can all help to move this country forward,” he stated.
According to the son of the late flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Professor Adu-Boahen, if his nomination is approved, he will use his 18 years’ work experience in finance to add value to the work of the Ministry.
“I have over 18 years’ experience in the finance industry, that is, fundraising, attracting investment into Ghana. Through my two companies we have seen over $30million of investment in Ghana, both in real estate and other activities, asset management as well and understanding of the capital market. So based on what my Minister will like me to do, I believe I could add value along various areas of finance in the ministry,” he stated.
