A member of the Media Monitors Group of the ruling NDC who burnt the party’s flag at a rally of the opposition NPP has been battling with excessive alcohol, Zu Kwame, NDC Ashanti Regional deputy Secretary has revealed.
Sly, according to the deputy chief scribe, has been on excessive use of intoxicants for a very long time, a situation, he noted, has been a source of worry to the Akatamansonians in the region.
“The Media Monitors Group had had cause to complain about his excessive abuse of alcohol and other intoxicants that led to the decision as a political party to discontinue his services with the hope that we can win him off the alcohol and reintegrate Sly into the mainstream Media Monitors Group”.
“But I must admit that we have been battling with our efforts to win him off this excessive alcohol abuse”, noted Zu Kwame in an interview with TV3 Sunday night.
Sly on Sunday afternoon burnt the NDC party’s flag into ashes after expressing his disappointment with the governing party.
The incident happened at Atonsu during the campaign launch of the NPP MP for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei.
Sly kissed the NPP’s flag while weeping profusely.
He told journalists that the NDC led by President John Mahama has disappointed him and some other Akatamansonians in the region.
But Zu Kwame commenting further said he could not verify the circumstances under which Sly took that very action “whether he was himself or not”.
“It is a very pathetic situation. Those of us who live in the Ashanti Region and know Sly will attest to the deteriorating nature of Sly and how difficult the issue has been to us as a political party. He needs our support”, he added.
