Dr Obed Asamoah, a former National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has applauded Valerie Sawyerr, Ex-Deputy Chief of Staff in the John Mahama administration for boldly criticising Former President Jerry John Rawlings.
According to him, such action is good for the rebuilding of the NDC and called on other members of the party to also be bold to speak up against anybody in the NDC.
Ms Sawyerr has openly accused Mr Rawlings of portraying himself as a saint even though he is not.
In a response to a recent comment by Mr Rawlings that former Presidents John Kufuor, John Mills and John Mahama were all corrupt, Ms Sawyerr wondered whether Mr Rawlings is the only saint of a President that Ghana has had.
Speaking in relation to this matter in an interview with Accra based Joy FM on Wednesday August 9, 2017 Mr Asamoah said: “Everybody is in good standing to criticise. That has always been my philosophy, that anybody should have the freedom to speak his mind and people shouldn’t just worship people just because they happen to be Mr A or Mr B. I mean I really hate hero worship particularly when it goes to the extent of ignoring the faults of the person and the mistakes of the person. That, I can’t stand…”
“In fact, I congratulated her; I sent a text message congratulating her for speaking her mind. I think it is very good for the party and good for the country. People should speak up their minds, they shouldn’t be intimidated by anybody or terrorised by anybody. She’s spoken her mind and she is entitled to do so”, he disclosed.
