The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Savelugu, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, on Wednesday, 21 June, accessed her office for the first time since her confirmation without hindrance from the youth in the area.
The MCE has been facing strong opposition from the youth over her appointment and subsequent confirmation.
The youth, who were against her appointment, argued that she was not a member of the party and had not contributed in any way to the party.
She has been under heavy police protection since her confirmation to prevent any harm on her after the youth of the party clashed with police last week as they attempted preventing her from taking office.
But on Wednesday, the once irate youth themselves offered to escort Hajia Seidu to her office as a sign of their resolve to allow her to work without any hindrance.
This follows fruitful negotiations between the youth and an NPP delegation sent to Savelugu to resolve the impasse.
Speaking to Jonas Ofori-Yeboah on 12Live on Class91.3FM, a member of the once angry youth, Abdul Kareem Zakaria, said after a series of meetings and consultations with the party hierarchy, they had decided to work in harmony with the MCE for the development of Savelugu.
Mr Zakaria explained: “Since the impasse, Mr Bryan Acheampong came from Accra, the Regional Minister is also here, the party elders and party executives all met with the party youth and the women’s groups. They explained to us the President’s vision in making sure that the country moves forward. They said this cannot be achieved if there is uneasy calm in any constituency or district. So he [Bryan Acheampong] explained the party policy and policy of government and the need to work with Hajia and that is the reason why we have decided to let peace prevail and allow her to work.”
