The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is adept at rigging elections in the country, Dr Kwame Amoako Tuffuor, the Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Disciplinary Committee of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said.
Dr Amoako Tuffuor said he admired the ingenuity of the NDC in “stealing elections”, though he was quick to point out that those strategies the governing party intends adopting to unfairly win the December 7 polls this year would be neutralised.
His comment comes at a time there is talk of several people from the camp of the NPP contesting as independent parliamentary candidates especially in the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the NPP. This situation, the party fears, will affect the fortunes of its presidential nominee, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, hence the need to deal with those situations.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday October 4, Dr Tuffuor said there was the need for the party to deal with situations that could reduce the votes of the party.
He said: “We (NPP) want to win this election convincingly and so we want to avoid situations that will reduce our votes. If we are not careful, NDC moles will infiltrate our camp because the candidates that they are bringing to the region (Ashanti) are meant to reduce the votes of the NPP. They also have ways to rig the elections, they really have several strategies.”
“I respect them (NDC) for being creative in either stealing or employing fraudulent means to win elections. If they want to challenge, I will face off with them. Those fake soldiers and police that the NDC will be using at the various polling stations under the guise of protecting the ballot should rescind their decision because there will be proper scrutiny. We will scrutinise the authenticity of police officers assigned to the polling stations, and so it will not be easy for them.”
