Plans by the Akufo-Addo-led government to revamp the rail sector in the country will contribute to easing vehicular congestion on the roads, especially in Accra, Ishmael Ashitey, Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate, has said.
Answering questions on what he would do to ease the traffic situation in Accra during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday February 14, he said: “On the transportation issue, I will liaise with other ministries like Roads and Highways and I have just been briefed that the Nana Akufo-Addo government is thinking of expanding our railway system so that will also be able to take part of the traffic in town so we will work together and we will continue to improve the lives of the people.”
Touching on chieftaincy disputes in the region, Mr Ashitey said: “We have got the chieftaincy institution, we have the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, we have got the National House of Chiefs, we have our courts. I think the elders of the Ga state are aware of who will be the Ga Mantse. We should give them the opportunity to come out and let us know who is the right Ga Mantse.
“I, as the Regional Minister, will be assisting them so that we can think together and see how we can break through. I will also work with the security agencies to make sure that there is law and order in Greater Accra.”
