Superintendent Cephas Arthur has said it will be needless for Ghanaians to worry about the recent cell and jailbreaks since the trend has been in existence for some time and will probably continue in the subsequent years.
About seven prisoners at the Denu prison in the Volta Region broke cell and escaped with some rifles a few weeks ago.
The prisoners reportedly managed to escape because the Police Officers on duty were drunk and asleep.
Two prisoners also managed to escape from a cell in Tepa in the Ashanti Region last Wednesday.
However, speaking on the trend on Eyewitness News, Supt Cephas Arthur said there is no reason for Ghanaians to “throw their hands in the air and cry Armageddon” since the phenonmenon might never be eradicated.
“Nothing is going wrong. This is trivial escape. Trivial escape has been with us since time immemorial. This is a phenomenon that has plagued the world and we may never be able to eradicate it, just manage it,” he said.
Cephas Arthur also revealed that the Police will deal ruthlessly with escapees at the Denu and Kumasi Police cells.
“I want to assure the public that the escapees in Denu and Kumasi will be recaptured and brought to justice.”
