In an effort to promote waste segregation and to actualise President Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa, plastic manufacturers Qualiplast Limited has presented 100 litter bins to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to be used in its public schools.
The presentation was made at the factory premises of Qualiplast limited located at the industrial area, Avenor in Accra.
Desmond Appiah, the Chief Resilience and Sustainability Advisor to the Mayor of Accra, who represented the Mayor, said the bins will be used in public schools in Accra to create awareness among the students on the need to segregate waste which is in line with the Mayor’s vision for Accra which has waste segregation as a major component.
Deputy General Manager of Qualiplast Limited, Joseph Akl, who spoke on behalf of the General Manager Sady Salloum, said the company made the donation in support of the fight against filth in Accra.
He added that, the bins have been colour coded and branded to aid education on waste segregation from the source of waste generation for recycling. “This goes to support the mayor’s strategy which is education, enforcement and provision of infrastructure for waste collection to make Accra the cleanest city”, he averred.
He assured AMA of the company’s continuous support with regards to making Accra clean.
The AMA in the last few weeks prosecuted some people, notably at Lapaz and Achimota for various sanitation offenses.
