President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo must have his government prosecute corrupt officials of the outgoing government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has said.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Mrs Rawlings, who contested in the 2016 presidential race as flag bearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), said the Akufo-Addo administration must probe all “fishy deals” supervised by the NDC so as to ensure accountability.
“While the fourth republican democracy provided a combined human-centred liberal social development, our governance space was being occupied by looters of state coffers completely out of touch with the ordinary people,” she noted.
“The result of the 2016 polls is an expression of revulsion at heartless vulgar opulence displayed by government, the deprivation and impoverishment of the people,” she added.
“…I’m interested in what was happening to this country: 1. mismanagement, 2. incompetence, 3. corruption, 4. opulence, 5. create, loot and share; 6. lies and deception; 7. ethnocentric politics, and one of the most important things: hospitals not working; people went to the hospitals to die, and not to get well, not because doctors were incompetent, not because of anything other than no equipment and health were being put in the hospitals to save Ghanaians.”
