Wedding bells will be heard in spring 2018 for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. And, not long after that, could come the pitter-patter of tiny feet.
In their first joint interview since announcing their royal engagement, the couple was asked if they have plans to start having a family soon.
“Not currently, no,” the royal said, as his fiancée laughed at his response.
“Of course, one step at a time and hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future,” Harry added.
Fans of the Prince have come to know him as a bit of a baby whisperer as he’s had several adorable moments with young children this year.
In late September, during the Invictus Games, the youngest son of Prince Charles took time to meet a pint-sized sporting fan and got a big smile from the young child after Harry grabbed on to the 7-month-old’s foot in a photo shared on the Kensington Palace’s Instagram account.
That same month, Prince Harry, who is the uncle to brother Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s children Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2, captured the attention of a young girl while making faces at her and offering popcorn.
And in April, the royal revealed he’s ready for fatherhood.
“Of course, I would love to have kids,” he told podcast host Bryony Gordon in an interview with The Telegraph‘s Mad World podcast. (He’s got experience, too: Harry also said he’s already a godfather to five or six of his friends’ children.)
“I think the key to [being a good godfather] is to be able to grow up, but also be able to stay in touch with your childhood side,” Harry added.
Also in May 2016, the groom-to-be told PEOPLE he was still weighing up the pros and cons for starting a family.
“There have been moments through life, especially when we do a tour abroad, when I think, ‘I’d love to have kids now,’ ” he said. “And then there are other times when I bury my head in the sand going, ‘All right, don’t need kids!’ There’s no rush. I think, I tell you what: There’s been times I’ve been put off having children.”
