The Ghana Police Service has interdicted one of its officers after he left his rifle in a commercial vehicle.
In a press statement dated January 28, the Service indicated that the rifle was returned by the driver of the vehicle.
They stated that the driver also “alleged that the Inspector had extorted money from him.”
Following the driver’s claims the officer, Inspector Sulemana Adam, has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This comes after the driver had granted Connect FM an interview after the police officer left his rifle in the car on Friday.
The said driver claimed that the police had arrested him for illegal parking when he stopped to alight some passengers.
He alleged that the police took about GHS100 before he was allowed to leave.
Meanwhile, the police say “both the Inspector and the driver are assisting with investigation” into the issue.
