The contract for the construction of the Pokuase interchange will not be awarded through sole-sourcing, Kwesi Amoako-Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways, has revealed.
According to him, there will be open, competitive bidding to ensure that road contracts go to the best bidder to give the nation value for money.
Mr Amoako-Atta on Thursday, 23 February inspected ongoing road projects in some parts of the Greater Accra Region, including Pokuase and Legon.
Speaking in an interview with host Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM Friday February 24 in connection with Thursday’s inspection, he noted that vehicular congestion on the Ofankor-Pokuase-Nsawam highway was unbearable and frustrating commuters, hence the need to ensure that construction on the interchange is commenced.
At the moment, the government is going through the procurement process to ensure that the project starts in September this year.
He said: “The traffic situation at Pokuase is frustrating, and, so, we will be constructing a three-tier interchange in the area to be sponsored by the African Development Bank.
“I went there for an inspection and also inspected other ongoing road projects at Legon, near the Botanical Gardens. We are working towards commencing the Pokuase interchange in September. We are now going through the procurement processes, and, so, we have given ourselves six months to finish with the procurement processes.
“The government will not condone sole-sourcing and selective tendering in the procurement process for the Pokuase interchange. We will ensure competitive bidding for the best contractor to win.”
