An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced one Awal Iddrisu to 15 years in prison for robbing a man of his phone and cash.
The accused, according to the prosecutor, Superintendent Patience Mario, was among a gang of criminals who terrorised residents of Nungua at night, riding on motorbike and wielding knives and cutlasses, often snatching their valuables and robbing them of their cash.
The prosecutor told the court that Iddrisu, who resides at Agbogbloshie, during one of his operations near Nungua Ravico, brandished a sharp knife at the victim, Daniel Nkrumah, ordering him to hand over all items in his possession, following which Nkrumah surrendered his phone, an Infinix Hot Note worth GHS370, and an amount of GHS220.
However, two days later, Nkrumah spotted Iddrisu close to the spot he was robbed and mobilised his friends to effect an arrest, after which he was handed over to the Nungua Police.
The accused admitted to the offence and Justice Aboagye Tandoh sentenced Iddrisu to 15 years with hard labour.
