Ghanaian peace-keeping army personnel will now receive a daily allowance of $31, a dollar more than they have been getting.
The upward adjustment of the allowance was announced by President John Mahama on Thursday, 11 August, 2016, at a durbar organised by the Ghana Armed Forces after the commander-in-chief commissioned the newly-built Naval Headquarters at Burma camp in Accra in military fatigues.
Mr Mahama said there had been no increment in the allowance for army personnel since late Prof John Mills last increased it in 2009.
“We have decided to increase by $1 a day, the rate that is paid to peace-keeping soldiers,” Mr Mahama announced.
He said the government would ensure that allowances due army personnel were paid promptly.
