Parliament postpones debate on Ghartey C’ttee report

Parliament has postponed to Thursday 30 March the debate on the Joe Ghartey Committee report into allegations of bribery against the chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, and Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed.

The debate, according to Class News’ parliamentary correspondent Ekow Annan, was postponed due to the voluminous nature of the report.

The leadership of parliament postponed the debate to allow members to read and study the report.

It is not yet clear what the findings of the report are and the recommendations made.

The Joe Ghartey Committee presented its report to parliament on Wednesday, 29 March.

Last week, the committee received fresh evidence, delaying its work which began on Wednesday, 15 February.

It is recalled that Bawku Central MP and member of the Appointments Committee, Mahama Ayariga, in January alleged Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko attempted to bribe the Minority members on the committee with GHS3000 each to endorse his nomination after his vetting.

According to him, the Energy Minister used Mr Osei-Owusu as a conduit to bribe them. Mr Osei-Owusu is alleged to have given the monies to the Minority on the committee through Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak.

However, Mr Mubarak, Mr Agyarko, and Mr Osei-Owusu have denied the allegation.
