Embattled judges exposed in a damning video allegedly taking bribes have surely learnt their lessons and should be forgiven, Spiritual Leader of Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council has suggested.
Nakoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson however said it is unfortunate persons of such repute would be embroiled in a despicable conduct that is both legally and morally wrong.
A total of 22 circuit court judges and magistrates are on suspension after they were secretly filmed for allegedly taking bribes. The latest investigative video by Anas Aremeyaw Anas also exposed 12 high court judges allegedly misconducting themselves by taking bribes and tampering with justice. They are being investigated by the Judicial Council.
Many, including former Attorney General Papa Owusu Ankomah and National Secretary of the Association of State Attorneys, Charles Wilcos Ofori, have called for the prosecution of the judges involved in the bribery scandal.
But speaking to journalists after the National Chief Imam Dr. Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu and his council paid a reciprocal courtesy call on him and leadership of the Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council Thursday, Nakoa Nazareth said the Judicial Council must tamper justice with mercy.
“If the judiciary will listen to my plea, then I will ask for pardon for these judges,” he prayed.
He explained; “I will ask for pardon so that they come and rectify what they have done. Because when someone does something bad in the sight of God and he comes back to himself that what he has done is not good, he tries to do what is good or what is right.”
Nakoa Nazareth who is also the General Overseer of the Israel King of Jews Church said the judges and their colleagues should rather be supported with prayers.
“I will continue to pray for them so that nobody will fall into such an act again,” he explained.
“If you are sitting on a high throne of God on earth like this as a judge to judge the needy, the poor and the rich,” he admonished, “then you have to choose the correct line: you have to choose the truth.”
The courtesy call was to demonstrate that while maintaining uncompromising stand on religious beliefs and traditions, the need for avoidance of communal strife and other social problems can be tackled through inter faith dialogue.
