THE NATIONAL Media Commission (NMC) has directed Accra-based radio station, Onua FM and its presenter, Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, to retract a broadcast they made on November 24 last year, against the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, and the person of the Minister, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
A statement issued by the NMC indicated that the broadcast had alleged among other things, that although the Ministry [of Parliamentary Affairs] did not exist, government had given it a budgetary allocation of GH¢16 million to spend.
“At the Complaints Settlement Committee, the station could not substantiate the allegations,” the NMC revealed in its statement.
It added that the commission found the behaviour of Onua FM “unethical” and “unprofessional,” and, therefore, directed the station to apologise and retract the said news story.
In addition, Onua FM has also been directed to remove the unfounded allegations from all their media platforms and other social media platforms.
