Five suspected criminals have escaped from police custody at the Ofankor police station in Accra.
The five, who were under investigation for various degrees of crimes including armed robbery managed to escape through the ceiling.
The police are on a man-hunt for the escapees.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Accra police command, Inspector Kwabena Danso said they have increased their vigilance and called on the public to assist the police to re-arrest the suspects.
“I can confirm to you that five prisoners have escaped from police cells at Ofankor. They managed to create a hole through the ceiling and escaped from custody. There is one armed robbery remand prisoner and the remaining four are involved in killing. We’ve put measures in place. We have intensified police patrols, motor bike patrols and we have also activated our intelligence gathering across the country,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
Mr Danso further said the police officers on duty have been given some days to ensure the recapture of the escapees or face sanctions.
