Youth of Obomeng-Kwahu in the Eastern Region are up against the chief of the area, Nana Yeboah Afari Oboagyan II, over indiscriminate sale of stool lands.
According to the youth, it is unacceptable for the traditional ruler to sell properties belonging to the people.
A statement by Siaw Ampadu, also know as Akonta, said: “We the concerned citizens of Obomeng-Kwahu in the Eastern Region of the Republic of Ghana have taken a keen note on the indiscriminate sale of Obomeng stool lands by the chief of Obo-Kwahu, Nana Yeboah Afari Obaogyan II, and we wish to take this opportunity to express or displeasure over this development.
“First of all, we regard and give reverence to Obohene who is also the Nifahene of Kwahu. We recognize him as our chief and accord him the respect due him customarily as we give to every chief within the Kwahu Traditional area, however, a situation where lands which are known to belong to the people of Obomeng both at Obomeng and Nkawkaw-Amanfrom are sold by Obohene is unacceptable. It is noted with concern that several areas of lands belonging to the people of Obomeng both at Obomeng and Nkawkaw-Amanfrom have all been sold by Obohene with impunity without recourse to the chief of Obomeng. Sadly, all attempts by the Late Krontihene of Obomeng and the sitting chief to get Obohene to desist from this uncustomary act have proved futile.”

PRESS RELEASE BY CONCERNED CITIZENS OF OBOMENG KWAHU ON THE INDISCRIMINATE SALE OF OBOMENG STOOL LANDS BY OBOHENE, OSABARIMA YEBOAH AFARI OBOAGYAN II
We the concerned citizens of Obomeng-Kwaku in the Eastern Region of Republic of Ghana have taken a keen note on the indiscriminate sale of Obomeng stool lands by the chief of Obo-kwahu, Nana Yeboah Afari Obaogyan II and we wish to take this opportunity to express or displeasure over this development.
First of all, we regard and give reverence to Obohene who is also the Nifahene of Kwahu. Sadly, all attempts by the Late Krontihene of Obomeng and the sitting chief to get Obohene to desist from this uncustomary act have proved futile.
On the 13th day of September, 2017, Obohene sadly sold the Obomeng SDA church section of the Obomeng public cemetery to a private developer for the construction of a fuel station. Meanwhile, the SDA church had earlier in about two weeks buried bodies at the said location but strangle as we speak, grading of the land for the commencement of the construction of the fuel station is underway which has caused the destruction, exhumation and the exposure of the content of some tombs with its attendant health implications.
That Obohene has take the chiefs and people of Obomeng-Kwahu and our agents for granted for far too long and it is time we stake a claim to what belong to us.
Therefore we the citizen of Obomeng-Kwahu want Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Kwahuhene and President of Kwahu Traditional Council, the entire Membership of Kwahu Traditional Council, the Eastern Regional Minister, Our Members of Parliament, MCE of Kwahu West Municipal Assembly, the Ghana Police Service and the other States Security Agencies, citizens of Kwahu and all those whose have the interest of Kwahu at heart to take note of the following:
◈ That we want to state emphatically that we the people of Obomeng-Kwahu are not happy about this indiscriminate sale of Obomeng Stool lands by Obohene.
◈ That Obomeng-Kwahu is a sovereign town which has its own number of towns and villages which constitute Obomeng-Kwahu Stool Land over which Obohene customarily and legally exercises no jurisdiction.
◈ That we are giving Obohene seven (7) days from today to desist from the sale of any part of Obomeng Stool lands and also to revert the ones already sold to Obomenghene i.e. the lands at Obomeng and Nkawkaw-Amanfrom, with immediate effect.
◈ That we want Obohene to render an unqualified apology to Obomenghene, the people of Obomeng-Kwahu particularly to the members of the Obomeng SDA Church and the affected families for the sale of our lands and the destruction of those tombs.
◈ That if Obohene fail to adhere strictly to these directive, we the people of Obomeng and our allies will advise ourselves accordingly.
We are by this urging angry and the teaming people especially the youth of Obomeng-Kwahu over the indiscriminate sale of our lands, to remain calm because we are optimistic that Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Kwahuhene and President of Kwahu Traditional Council, the entire Membership of Kwahu Traditional Council, the Eastern Regional Minister, our Members of Parliament, MCE of Kwahu West Municipal Assembly, the DCE of Kwahu South District Assembly and all citizens of Kwahu will act swiftly after this statement.
We finally urge the Nkawkaw Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police Service to immediately investigate, arrest and prosecute all those who invaded and damaged tombs at the Obomeng public cemetery. We are ever ready to defend and protect our lands in any forms and by any means necessary.
LONG LIVE OBOMENGMAN!
