The Ghana Medical and Dental Council (MDC) on Wednesday, 4 January shut down the Advanced Body Sculpt Centre within the Obengfo Hospital at Weija near Accra after it emerged the facility was operating illegally.
According to the Registrar of the MDC, Dr Eli Atikpui, operators of the centre do not have the requisite licence to carry out their activity, hence the move to close it down.
He, therefore, cautioned the general public to be wary of such facilities in order not to lose their lives.
The owner of the centre, Dr Dominic Obeng Andoh was arrested and whisked away after he confronted personnel of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service and the council when they attempted evacuating and closing down the facility.
In 2013, three persons who had gone to the Obengfo Hospital for liposuction were reported to have suffered life-threatening complications.
