Government has begun paying restored nurse trainee allowances, ClassFMonline.com has learnt.
It is recalled that government scrapped the allowance because it said it was eradicating the quota system, which placed a restriction on the number of students who could gain admission into institutions for training of nurses.
This meant that government could channel resources to improve facilities in these institutions to cater for the increased enrolment.
But government later rescinded its decision after pressure from various quarters and numerous demonstrations by the trainees.
Mr Tony Goodman, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, has confirmed to ClassFMonline.com that the monies have been disbursed to the various nurse training schools for distribution.
He confirmed the payments were being made through the accounts departments of the schools because most the areas where the schools were located did not have banks through which the students could be paid.
