The Brong Ahafo regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and chiefs of the Sunyani Traditional Council have settled disagreements that arose between them during the 2016 electioneering period in 2016.
It is recalled that during the period, members of the Sunyani Traditional Council raised issues with the conduct of Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, Regional Minister-designate, for allegedly accusing the chiefs of engaging in partisan politics in last year’s polls, an election the NPP won.
The livid chiefs called on Mr Asomah-Cheremeh to apologise, failing which they would refuse to assist him as Regional Minister after his appointment to the position by President Akufo-Addo.
However, a statement issued by Maxwell Mahama, an aide to Mr Asomah-Cheremeh, on Wednesday February 15 said: “Yesterday (Tuesday) 14th February, 2017, Valentine’s Day, at around 5:30pm at the Missions House of the Roman Catholic Cathedral, Sunyani, Nananom have wholeheartedly forgotten and buried whatever happened between them and the New Patriotic Party before, during and after the 2016 general elections.
The statement added: “The New Patriotic Party in the Brong Ahafo Region, led by Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, has also stated that there is absolutely nothing evil between the New Patriotic Party in the region and the Nananom from the Sunyani Traditional Council.
“The two parties finally agreed to work in unity, in peace, and live as one family both in Sunyani and outside Sunyani.
“The Regional Minister designate wishes to inform the general public and the media to ensure that peace prevails in every corner of the Brong Ahafo Region and beyond.”
