The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has discredited the governing National Democratic Congress’ manifesto promises just a day after President John Dramani Mahama’s presentation of the highlights ahead of the launch of the document on Saturday September 17 in Sunyani.
The NDC made 130 manifesto promises and said public-private partnerships would be key in funding the projects promised.
However, the NPP at a press conference in Accra on September 14 raised questions about promises made by the NDC in the lead-up to the 2008 elections.
Addressing journalists, the Director of Communications of the NPP, Nana Akomea, said the NDC had failed to carry out promises they made to women in 2008.
Nana Akomea recounted that in November 2008, the NDC rolled out its vision for women and promised legislative and policy reforms to give a minimum 40 per cent quota of senior government positions to women.
Apart from that promise, he said “the NDC promised to promote increased access to education, health, employment, and infrastructural access for women,” adding: “That 40 per cent representation for women that will be backed by law made in 2008, as we sit here, there is no law to back 40 per cent representation for women to senior government positions and indeed that policy has never been carried out.”
