As part of its preparations for the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will be launching its manifesto this September.
Mr Mustapha Hamid, spokesperson for the NPP’s flag bearer Nana Akufo-Addo made the announcement when he spoke to Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5FM’s breakfast show Ghana Yensom on Friday, 2 September.
He contended that although the manifesto is yet to be launched, Ghanaians have a fair idea of the contents following the announcement of the one- factory-per-district and one-dam-per-village policies by the presidential nominee. “We have told you that somewhere in this September, we will launch the manifesto. But all the things that we have been saying are part of our manifesto. All the big ideas in the manifesto are the ones we are putting out and the rest will just be detailed explanations of these major polices.”
“Even though the launch is important, Ghanaians now have a fair idea of what is contained in the manifesto. In this September, God-willing, we will find a correct date [to launch it],” Mr Hamid said.
Meanwhile, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will launch its manifesto on September 17 in Sunyani, the capital of the Brong Ahafo Region. The party’s campaign spokesperson Joyce Bawa-Mogtari made the announcement on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Friday.
“… Whatever we [NDC] do is usually based on strategy, it’s based on tact and above all that we are a party that is actually in government so we do believe that our manifesto will be providing Ghanaians a semblance of what to expect in our second and final term of President Mahama, so for our part, we continue to implement our existing manifesto … and you know that the NDC since 2004 has actually never launched its election campaign together with its manifesto.
“The two are normally separate events so we expect that after the launch, the media and every well-meaning Ghanaian will have access to the document to critique it to the best of their ability…” she told host Prince Minkah.
