The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party says it is ready to join the protest by pressure group Let My Vote Count and others at the offices of the Electoral Commission to press home calls for a new voters’ register.
The protest has been slated for Wednesday, September 16.
A statement by the party which quotes its National Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku in a social media post, “the decision to join the protest being spearheaded by pressure groups, Let My Vote Count, Alliance For Accountable Governance and Movement for Change, is because a new voters’ register for 2016 borders on the very survival of Ghana’s democracy.”
The statement said the planned picketing of the EC offices is peaceful one because the call for a new register is not about an NPP or NDC banter, but “It is about the collective destiny of our country and the survival of our democracy. Surely elections are a process and the process which includes a voters register, must be credible”.
Sammy Awuku therefore called on like-minded Ghanaians to join “as we picket on Wednesday the 16th of September at the EC premises to demonstrate our anger and peacefully make our concerns known to the Commission.”
