Newly-trained teachers will be picketing the regional offices of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Thursday, 30 October 2017.
This follows government’s delay in posting them to commence work.
A memo signed by Dwamenah Samuel, spokesperson for the trained teachers said: “The leadership of the 2016/2017 newly-trained teachers in the Greater Accra Region is calling on all newly-trained teachers in all the regions to come out in their numbers to register our displeasure to the government as well as the teacher unions over the delay in our postings.
“We have been silent for some time now because we were assured by GES and TTAG that postings would be released last week. As of now, newly-trained teachers are still wandering about in our houses with no knowledge about when we would be posted. TTAG President Apam Jonathan has warned newly-trained teachers to stop blaming him and also said that we are no more members of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG).”
It added: “Teacher unions have also forsaken us. This is why the leadership of the newly-trained teachers has taken it upon itself to call on all well-meaning members to rally support and together seek answers to the so many questions in our minds. This is a wake-up call on all newly-trained teachers. The time is now.”
