Some farmers in New Abirem in the Eastern Region have clashed with police while demonstrating against officials of mining giant Newmont Ghana Limited.
The farmers were demonstrating on Tuesday October over claims that the mining company has taken over their farm lands without paying them their royalties.
Reports indicated that the Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. It is however unknown why the Police fired the tear gas.
The organiser of the demonstration, Kofi Deu Kyira told host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM Don Kwabena Prah Jr. (The Don), Tuesday 16 October that five people have been left injured in the melee.
The farmers claim they will continue to demand that the right thing is done by the company.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the area, Osei Frimpong said he is working hard to bring the situation under control.
He said there are some legalities that must be looked at by lawyers.
