The bankroller of Ghana Premier League side Elmina Sharks, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has expressed gratitude fans and players were unharmed after the roof of the club’s stadium came off following a rainstorm on Sunday.
The newly built stadium hosted Sunday’s game between Elmina Sharks and WAFA which the home team lost by two goals to one in the league.
Dr Nduom said the safety of fans remains the club’s “guiding principle”.
“I am just thankful the strong rainstorm that blew the roof off our stadium in Elmina happened after the Sharks match with WAFA FC. The fans and players had left to go home. There are no injuries to report. We are lucky and I am grateful for that. Technical people have been assembled to determine why the roof and all the trusses could be blown away like that. We will ensure that we end up with the best solution. The safety of the people remains our guiding principle,” Dr Nduom, the politician and 2016 flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), said in a Facebook post on Monday.
