The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Tuesday snubbed Mr George Boateng, a youth organiser of the party at Oyarifa who has vowed to contest President John Dramani Mahama for the party’s presidential slot.
Mr Boateng who arrived at the party’s headquarters with the hope of picking new nomination forms for his presidential bid as had been instructed by the party hierarchy was disappointed.
He was not welcomed to the party headquarters. Even though he had access to the compound of the headquarters he was not allowed to enter the reception.
After waiting for about two to three hours without anybody coming out to receive him, he told journalists he had been told to go and come later since the executives were engaged in a meeting.
He said he would instruct his lawyers to go to court if he was denied the opportunity to contest the presidential primaries.
Boateng who has vowed to challenge President Mahama picked his nomination forms last week to contest the presidential aspirant race but was told later that his form was actually a draft.
Administrative officers of the party, who issued the form, are said to have been sacked for failing to follow the party’s guideline, which states that only the General Secretary can issue the presidential aspirant form.
Boateng alleged that it was a ploy by the party hierarchy to sabotage his presidential dream in President Mahama’s favour.
In a radio interview he said he would legalise marijuana when he becomes President and also form a union government by appointing either Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings or Nana Akufo Addo as his Vice President.
The government can export marijuana and use the proceeds to develop the country, he said and stressed that legalising marijuana would create jobs for the youth.
“We will grow and export it [marijuana] under government control. It will help us. Wee is not a bad thing,” he told Accra based Okay FM.
The presidential hopeful’s ambition has been met with strong words from the party hierarchy and according to him he had learnt of a clandestine plot by the party leadership to let President Mahama contest unopposed.
On Monday he took his quest for credibility to the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital, where he sought to check on his mental state.
According to the presidential hopeful, the move was to enable him remove the insanity tag around his neck.
“I have information that Asiedu Nketiah and the rest want to disqualify me on the basis that I’m mentally sick, and I will never allow that to happen. So to ensure that they don’t use that against me, I have decided to go for a test at the Pantang Hospital by 10 a.m. sharp today (Monday).
The NDC goes to its primaries on November 7, 2015 to elect its flag bearer and parliamentary candidates.
Nominations were, therefore, opened on August 27, 2015 and are expected to close on Thursday September 10, 2015 before vetting and other processes.
The party has expanded its Electoral College for the primaries by giving each card-bearing member a voting right in the election of candidates to reduce vote buying.
