NDC no more tagged a violent party…another party has taken over – Asiedu Nketia

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has successfully shed itself of being branded as a violent party.

According to the party, it implemented carefully thought out strategies to ensure that the negative tag associated with the party was done away with.

The ruling NDC party has over the year been viewed as a violent party as it has its antecedents from the 31^st December Revolution in 1981, led by its founder Flt Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.

The Revolution which saw the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) chaired by ex President Rawlings ruling Ghana for 11 years under military dictatorship, and later the junta metamorphosed into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 1992 when Ghana was restored to a democracy.

Speaking at the NDC’s 24^th Anniversary celebration at the party’s headquarters in Accra, the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia stated that where as the NDC has managed to brand itself well and endeared the party to the public, another political party has graciously taken over that tag, for which the NDC is very excited.

“We’ve done 24 years we can say our performance has not been the best but surely we’re not the worst. We’ve made progress, in any human institution, you can’t fight for perfection. If you want to do anything you want to so perfectly that nobody will get anything to criticize you about, then you’ll end up not doing anything at all.

“We think that over this 24 years, we have a lot to celebrate, we have been the longest serving party in power, won elections than any other party in Ghana…we have managed to if you like polish our image. We all understand that some time ago we were branded with the tag of a violent party, luckily now we have been able to shed that branding completely and another group has graciously taken over that branding and we thank them for that.”

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah also disclosed that the NDC manifesto for the upcoming November General Election is ready and currently waiting for the assent of the party leader so that a date can fix a date to outdoor it.
