It seems this election year, a number of celebs have openly proclaimed their support for various political parties as compared to previous years and the latest to join the bandwagon is actress Bibi Bright.
According to the mother of one, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has failed Ghana and believes Nana Addo, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)is the right person to change Ghana from the bad state it is in now to a better one.
“ I don’t really care whatever Ghanaians will say about me but the truth is I am suffering and anyone who will disagree with me is probably very okay and can afford to pay his rent, light bills and cater for their children” she told Showbiz in an interview last Saturday.
She said the NDC government led by President John Dramani Mahama has allegedly destroyed the economy beyond repairs and they seem very okay with it because most of them are rich.
She explained that the bad state of the economy is the reason why movie producers are no longer shooting movies and others turning their shops into provision stores and sale of electrical appliances.
Bibi Bright said, when the NPP was in power, there was massive sale of movies and hardly will you hear movie producers complaining because their CDs were being sold in shops as well as on the streets.
“ President Mahama is the one who has led Ghanaians to where we are now and it is time for change since he and his NDC have failed us. I know Nana Addo can do the magic to turn things round.”
Known for movies such as Promise Beyond, Lost In His Glory, Please Marry, Why Me, Azonto Babes and Arinzo, Bibi said “In countries like USA, India and Nigeria the government understands the importance of the arts and creative industry and invests in it because it can yield very good returns but it seems our industry is the least of the government’s worries.
“ The NDC government does not understand the arts and creative industry but Nana Addo does and that is why I am for him” she added.
Asked if she is not afraid of being sidelined, Bibi Bight who is planning to premiere her new movie said she does not really care what people will say about her because she is convinced Nana Addo is the right man for Ghana.
“I will be very disappointed if Nana Addo does not win this year’s election because I know Ghanaians are suffering like I am here. School feeding programme, NHIS as well as other social interventions are not working because of NDC and it is time for change” she said.
Despite blaming the NDC for the woes of the film industry, Bibi also made a plea to TV stations to stop showing telenovelas because it is killing the industry. “There is no way a Nigerian TV station will show a telenovela and even go ahead and do voice overs and discussions on it. It is not right” she added.
