The opposition National Democratic Congress has described the first 100 days of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government as full of broken promises and incompetence in the administration of the country.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, speaking at a town hall meeting on Easter Monday 17 April, said even though the NPP did not make promises for its 100 days, significant achievements had so far been chalked.
Dr Bawumia noted that despite inheriting a very difficult economy, the government, under Mr Akufo-Addo, had been able to fulfil many of its promises which secured it victory in the 2016 polls. He said government had recorded at least 103 achievements within its first 100 days in office.
But speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday 18 April, Deputy Minority Leader James Klutse Avedzi said the NPP’s first 100 days in office had been characterised by incompetence.
“It has been 100 days of broken promises, it has been 100 days of gross incompetence as was exhibited in the spare parts fiasco, it has been 100 days of shameful plagiarism by no mean a person than the President himself. It has been 100 days of ‘Proceed on Leave’ and dismissal of over 14,000 workers from the National Service [Secretariat], COCOBOD, police training recruits nurses, teachers, local government service staff, etc.,” he stated.
“It has been 100 days of hardships, it has been 100 days of deceit, it has been 100 days of wasteful expenditure of presidential swearing in ceremonies in Accra and Kyebi. It has been 100 days of wasteful expenditure on Ghana at 60 celebrations. It has been 100 days of terrorism by Invincible Forces, Delta Force and all the hidden partisan vigilante forces… It has also been 100 days of bribery and conflict of interest in high places and as we all know. It is 100 days of 110 ministers and, let me add, it has been 100 days of ‘wahala’. Yes there is no end in sight.”
According to Mr Afedzi, the NDC, as a responsible opposition party, will on its part offer the needed support and criticise constructively with the view to “spearheading the ailing Akufo-Addo government in order that they do not roll back the clock of progress set in motion by the NDC government”.
