Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini has said colleague lawmakers for Manhyia South, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, and Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, rained insults on him during a debate on the floor of parliament on Thursday, 30 March 2017.
He said while Dr Opoku Prempeh referred to him as a “mad” man, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful also hurled other insults at him at the same time.
According to Mr Suhuyini, “I told him [Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh] that he was equally mad and that is when my colleagues came to calm me down. They didn’t think I should respond in like manner.
“He did it on purpose and that is why it was necessary I made him aware that he didn’t have monopoly over such conduct,” Mr Suhuyini told Moro Awudu on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Monday, 3 April.
According to Mr Suhuyini, although his focus was on Dr Opoku Prempeh during the melee, he realised the Ablekuma West MP joined forces in the fray to rain insults on him.
The alleged insults were traded during a debate on the Ghartey Committee Report on a bribery allegation made against the leadership of the Appointments Committee by Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga.
The House was thrown into mayhem which nearly ended up in fisticuffs between MPs on both sides.
Meanwhile, Dr Opoku Prempeh has denied ever calling Mr Suhuyini a “fool” as earlier alleged by Ningo-Prampram MP Sam Nartey George and has demanded an apology from Mr Nartey George. The young MP, however, insists Dr Opoku Prempeh hurled insults at Mr Suhuyini and issued a counter-statement saying Dr Opoku Prempeh is rather the one who must apologise for his conduct.
