The son of former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has applauded the idea of naming the 21,000 capacity Tamale Sports stadium after his late father.
Farouk Aliu Mahama described the idea as a kind gesture.
Speaking to Class Sports, he said “The Tamale sports stadium was an idea he [Aliu Mahama] negotiated with then President John Agyekum Kufuor to bring the facility to the Northern region. So people must know the background before they question the idea.”
“As a member of the team that built the stadium, it is only a thank you and kind gesture to have the facility named after him and at least as a legacy for the people of the North,” he added.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2016 general election campaign announced his government will honour the late Vice President with the renaming of the Tamale sports stadium should they emerge victors.
