The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, Evelyn Naa Adjetey Twum Gyamera, has said the people in her area do not want to stop defecating in the open.
She said the residents, in spite of the provision of public toilets in several parts of the municipality, still defecate outside – a situation she said has a negative consequence on the health of the people.
In an interview with Accra100.5FM on Thursday, 25 October on the sidelines of a town hall meeting between the assembly and the people, Ms Gyamera appealed to the media to engage in vigorous public education against open defecation, as part of efforts to end the menace.
She said the assembly is also doing vigorous education on the matter.
She warned the people that very soon the assembly will collaborate with the security agencies to start arresting persons caught in open defection.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Oko Boye, for his part, assured the constituents that he will also support the assembly in its efforts to end the menace.
