The President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has warned those sending their CVs for appointments to note that his upcoming administration will not be a walk in the park.
Mahama revealed that many people have already begun submitting their CVs for potential appointments, despite him not yet being sworn in.
During a courtesy call with the leaders of the Ghana Pentecostal Church, led by Apostle Nyamekye, Mahama emphasized that his administration aims to raise governance and management standards to a higher level.
Mahama also stated that historically, Ghanaians have held the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to higher standards than the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a situation he claims he does not fully understand.
He cautioned the NDC not to get too complacent after the NPP’s defeat in the recent elections, warning that what happened to them could also happen to the NDC, and they should remain vigilant.
“We shouldn’t be too happy and gleeful about what just happened to our opponent in terms of the shellacking they’ve taken in this election because what happened to them can equally happen to us”
Angel News Mubarak Yakubu reported that, the president elect John Mahama further stated that the world looks to Ghana as a model for governance and democracy.
However, he pointed out that the country is currently facing severe crises, not only in the economy but also in governance.
He added that faith in Ghana’s democracy has drastically declined, along with a diminishing belief in democratic institutions.
“We must raise our governance and our management of our affairs to a higher standard. Historically Ghanaians have always held the NDC to a higher standard than the NPP, I don’t know what account for that because they said they are property owning democracy and they believe in land and property so when they come and do things, Ghanaians say that is how they are”
“But we are social democrat and we are supposed to stand for the interest of the people and so when we come to office they expect that we should live by our ideology”
He attributed this decline to politicians failing to be accountable to the people, which he believes has led voters to take matters into their own hands and punish leaders through their votes.
