The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Twum Asante, has been adjudged the Marketing Man of the Year 2016 by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) at the 28th National Marketing Performance Awards 2016 held at the State House in Accra.
MTN Ghana also won two other prestigious awards – Telecom Company of the Year and the flagship Marketing-Oriented Company of the Year. These awards, according to the CIMG, are in recognition of MTN’s excellence in strategic marketing in the areas of Marketing Insights, People Management, Corporate Reputation Management, CSR and sound Marketing Management that set MTN apart as a corporate achiever for the year 2016.
The citation to Mr Asante for Marketing Man of the Year reads in part: “You took over the reins of the enterprise a couple of years ago and your exploits have caught the attention of corporate Ghana. As the first Ghanaian Chief Executive Officer, your tenure has been monumental and rivalled the 21 years of the organisation’s existence. No wonder you were adjudged a top Executive in your industry; Telecom Service Executive of the year earlier this year.
“You have continued to steer your company to maintain its enviable position as Ghana’s number one network by having a Top of Mind Awareness of 57%, market leadership…”
Mr Asante was lauded for leading his team to set another enviable record where MTN’s 4G service penetration rose to number one with 59.7% market share within six months of commercial launch.
“Notably, customers can attest to your customer care programmes and improvements in the distribution channels which have resulted in the enhancement of relationships with subscribers… You never let your employers and predecessors down, rolling out impressive records which you and your organization continue to break,” the citation further stated.
Receiving the Marketing Man of the Year award, Mr Asante said: “MTN is bent on connecting every Ghanaian to the modern world so as to ensure the country’s socio-economic transformation. We cannot rest until Ghana also attains a digital economy driving the efficiencies of ICT and most importantly, the transparency that comes with automated and digital business.”
He dedicated the awards to the committed staff of MTN and all hard-working Ghanaians who strive to protect their professional integrity while pursuing excellence in their professional pursuits.
Mr Asante has over the years, received several awards in acknowledgement of the sterling performance and steady growth of MTN Ghana under his exceptional leadership. This year alone, he has been adjudged CEO of the Year at the 2017 Ghana Information Technology and Telecoms Awards (GITTA), Telecommunications Service Executive of the Year at the Ghana Entrepreneur Awards and CEO of the Year at the AfricaCo Awards.
The CIMG Awards was instituted to deepen the interest of the marketing profession and that of its members and to ensure that the Institute impacts positively in the performance of its legitimate role on society and the economy of Ghana and the world at large. The 28th edition of the Awards was organised under the theme, “Cause-related marketing: A panacea for national behavioural change.” The event was attended by marketing officials in Ghana’s leading corporate institutions, business icons, and government representatives.
