Some legislators are angry over the deplorable conditions at the burial grounds of late President John Evans Atta Mills at the Asomdwee Park in Accra.
This comes in the wake of preparations to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the demise of the former president.
According to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) constituency, Samuel Atta Mills, who is also the brother of the late president, the state of the final resting place of the late professor is clearly an insult to his memory and his role in the country’s history.
Making a statement in parliament on Friday July 21 about the current state of the park ahead of the commemoration of the event on Monday July 24, MPs in contribution, questioned why managers of the park had left the park to deteriorate.
“A visit to the place shows it is not receiving the required attention and maintenance,” Mr Mills told parliament, adding: “A well-crafted metallic cover of the tomb has developed green cracks detaching itself from the rest of the artefact.”
He said portions of the tomb are falling apart and has been supported with concrete blocks.
Mr Mills revealed there are weeds all over the location and the place is engulfed by filth.
