The government of Ghana must set up a taskforce to protect farming communities that are being terrorised by Fulani herdsmen in the country, Betty Krosbi Nana Efua Mensah, Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, has said.
According to her, the destructive activities of the nomads are assuming unbearable heights and must be a concern for every true Ghanaian.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Friday, 10 February, Ms Mensah said: “We have raised it on the floor of parliament that there should be some by-laws in place that guide the activities of the Fulani men. This will ensure that the suffering of our gallant farmers at the hands of the Fulani people stops.”
“The people of Afram Plains who are predominantly farmers are the most affected. They are unable to harvest their produce because they are terrorised by the Fulani their farms. Whoever challenges them is either killed or assaulted.
“Quite recently, these Fulani herdsmen in the Afram Plains killed some three indigenes resulting in a reprisal attack. We need to put a stop to this by finding lasting solutions to it. If it is possible, the government can set up a special taskforce to protect the communities affected by the Fulani herdsmenm,” she suggested.
