The controversy surrounding government’s decision to accept into Ghana the two former Guantanamo Bay detainees is set to resurface in Parliament.
Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Kofi Osei Ameyaw, says he will file an urgent question to compel the Foreign Affairs Minister to clarify certain aspects of the deal with the United States government.
Government’s decision to accept the two former terror suspects has received widespread condemnation.
Critics say the presence of the two former Guantanamo Bay detainees, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby pose a security threat.
The Asuogyaman MP says President John Mahama’s explanation for accepting the two former terror suspect from the US government has not been convincing.
“He took an Executive Decision but he is a President elected by people. He doesn’t become an Executive President by virtue of him being a nice man,” Mr Ameyaw said.
